that system.
ISO 18000 is an Occupational Health and Safety standard. It is not the same as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the United States, but it is similar. Many companies are requesting this registration as a preventative. They use it to find and eliminate problems before OSHA needs to come in. It costs time and money if a Previously I discussed the basics of ISO certification and what it meant. Here are some additional certifications that are specific to specialty industries.
AS 9100 is the Aerospace Quality Management System. Its foundation is ISO 9000:2000, with additional requirements specific to aerospace manufacturers. This is for companies that supply and work with the aerospace industry.
ISO 13485 is the Medical Quality Management System. Again, the foundation is ISO 9000:2000 with additional requirements that are specific to medical device manufacturers. Organizations currently manufacturing private label medical devices must have ISO 13485 registration if they sell their product in the European Union. Organizations that manufacture in vitro diagnostic medical devices, and want to be prepared for future regulatory requirements, would want to be registered to this standard also.
TS 16949 is the Automotive standard that is being promoted by Europe and the United States. It is a must for certain automotive tier one companies. It’s an in-depth, complicated, and expensive standard to attain. TS 16949 is regulated by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF). The IATF is an “ad hoc” group of automotive manufacturers and their respective trade associations formed to provide improved quality products to automotive customers worldwide. Members include the following manufacturers: BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford Motor Company, General Motors (including Opel Vauxhall), PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault SA, Volkswagen, and their respective trade associations – AIAG (U.S.), ANFIA (Italy), FIEV (France), SMMT (U.K.), and VDA (Germany).
As of December 14, 2006, TS 16949 replaced the QS-9000 standard. QS-9000 was the original global automotive standard promoted by the big three in the United States and overseas. There was a lot of time invested by many companies to become QS-9000 certified. Due to this, some companies that are not tier one still want to maintain their QS-9000 systems and are asking to have compliance audits so they can continue to maintain company gets into trouble with OSHA. Preventive measures help reduce that exposure to fines and penalties.
There are many other standards as well, such as for telecommunications and food. Many of those are founded upon the ISO 9001 standard.
No matter what size your company is, the systems are very similar. It just depends on whether your company is in the service industry or a manufacturer. Earning one of these certifications can improve your company’s product or service, reputation, and bottom line. Now, all you need to do is get out there and get started!

Per ISO rules, you are to request a copy of their certificate at the time of first purchase order.
If your company is certified it is required to have an up to date certificate from your vendors at all times.
Then on the certificate it will list who certified them, you can call that company to verify if the holder is current and in good standing.

ISO 9000 is a family of standards for quality management systems. ISO 9000 is maintained by ISO, the International Organization for Standardization and is administered by accreditation and certification bodies. Some of the requirements in ISO 9001 (which is one of the standards in the ISO 9000 family) would include:
a set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business;
monitoring processes to ensure they are effective;
keeping adequate records;
checking output for defects, with appropriate corrective action where necessary;
regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself for effectiveness; and
facilitating continual improvement
A company or organization that has been independently audited and certified to be in conformance with ISO 9001 may publicly state that it is "ISO 9001 certified" or "ISO 9001 registered." Certification to an ISO 9000 standard does not guarantee the compliance (and therefore the quality) of end products and services; rather, it certifies that consistent business processes are being applied.
ISO does not itself certify organizations. Many countries have formed accreditation bodies to authorize certification bodies, which audit organizations applying for ISO 9001 compliance certification. Although commonly referred to as ISO 9000:2000 certification, the actual standard to which an organization's quality management can be certified is ISO 9001:2000. Both the accreditation bodies and the certification bodies charge fees for their services. The various accreditation bodies have mutual agreements with each other to ensure that certificates issued by one of the Accredited Certification Bodies (CB) are accepted world-wide.
The applying organization is assessed based on an extensive sample of its sites, functions, products, services and processes; a list of problems ("action requests" or "non-compliances") is made known to the management. If there are no major problems on this list, the certification body will issue an ISO 9001 certificate for each geographical site it has visited, once it receives a satisfactory improvement plan from the management showing how any problems will be resolved.
An ISO certificate is not a once-and-for-all award, but must be renewed at regular intervals recommended by the certification body, usually around three years. In contrast to the Capability Maturity Model there are no grades of competence within ISO 9001.

ISO Certification is issued based on the physical entity of an organization and to to a virtual entity(like website).
An web based organization can apply for ISO but not for its website.

Family of standards and guidelines for quality in the manufacturing and service industries from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 9000 defines the criteria for what should be measured. Initially popular in Europe, ISO 9000 certification began to increase in the U.S. in the early 1990s. Certification requires exacting documentation and demonstrations in practice over time. The process, which can take up to a year, involves two major players in addition to the company being certified. A consultant provides (and may help implement) a plan for documenting the company's ISO system. Once documented, a registrar interviews the company's management and line staff to make sure that the new system, as documented, has been effectively implemented. Only a few dozen companies worldwide are authorized to conduct such audits for the issuance of ISO 9000 certificates.

appoint a ISO consultant who will consult and will documnet your entire process, guide you in preparing your quality manual I(which include your quality policy and quality objectives), and will provide the SOP's.
after this you will be asked to maintain the documnet as per ISO standards, then there will be a intrenal audit where NC's will be raised, it will be closed and at the end the certification Body (the outsider) will come and audit and if satisifed he will issue an ISO certificate for your compnay which is valid for a period of 3 year. Your consultant will guide you everything but will charge hefty fee and without consultant u can't go for ISO its really hectic job, i am saying this b'coz i am myself working with ISO consulting company in mumbai. and have consulted companies for ISO.
i can't write the whole procedure here. if you wish u can mail me your doubts
good luck.
