Six Sigma in New Product Development

Six Sigma in New Product Development

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a Six Sigma methodology that is used to launch new products & services on time, on budget, and on target gaining incremental revenues sooner, achieving greater market share, and ensuring that the company generates differentiated products & services that target customer & stakeholder needs. DFSS methodology is most commonly used in New Product Development organizations.

There are several approaches to DFSS, but the most popular methodology is called DMADV. DMADV stands for “Define – Measure – Analyze – Design – Validate”. The Define phase consists of defining the project charter which includes the business case and the opportunity for the new product or service. In the Measure phase, the needs of the key stakeholders are identified and measurable CTQs are developed. The Analyze phase consists of subsystem design and generating and selecting the best possible concepts. In the Design phase, a detailed design for the product or service is developed and optimized. The robustness of the design is ensured to minimize the impact of variation on performance of the product or service. Finally, in the Validate phase, the generated designs are verified and validated using simulation and other approaches.

Some of the tools covered in DMADV training are:

Multi-Generational Project Plans (MGPP)-  On Six Sigma projects that have significant scope, it is a good idea to break up the scope into multiple generations. An MGPP helps a team focus on the current generation and also plan for what is to come in the future generations.

Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Kano Analysis, Kansei Engineering, Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ), Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Pugh Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis, Fractional Design of Experiments, Taguchi Optimization, and Discrete Event Simulation methods.

DFSS is a powerful set of tools and techniques that can help one develop products and services that truly satisfy the key stakeholder needs. While DMAIC helps reduce bottom line costs in an organization, DFSS helps develop robust products and services to increase top line growth.

Nope. Not any more. We are in Kaliyug. No more quality, no more enduring. People are fickle and so is the material used to make anything. fickle so to speak of course! Just an image.
    Not enduring, sorry.
Have a great day, my dear Shariputra.

Your address should only appear once, not twice; it is the same so just consolidate it by saying Permanent address.

Remove the reference names and addresses and put "References available on request." Then put them on a separate sheet and give them out at the interview.

Remove the secondary school education entries. Not necessary.

Remove the Declaration. Also not necessary.

Remove the personal skills entry as well. Save that for the interview.

Otherwise, this is very good. As a personal preference, I would remove the "objective" as well (since you have a summary), and save it for the cover letter, but you don't have to–that's optional.

Good luck to you in your job search!

thanks for the video. Being a student of Industrial Engineering this small video really helped me in understanding the 6 sigma concept.

Perfect professional role model for me. Any suggestions on how I can eliminate the variation on the career path please ? Suggested reading perhaps…

Jack Welsh is a complete sleazebucket who fired normal people to feather his bed. He perpetuated a long running accounting and stock fraud with GE and paid so much in campaign contributions that in a number of years GE paid no taxes, but received billions from the government. He now lives like a drug lord and still pulls compensation from GE. Its good that he appears to have Alzheimer so now we won’t have to listed to his vacuous BS anymore.
